Van Love

Do you reckon they're allowed to park the van there?  I think not.  High tide could prove to be their undoing.

Caravan Update

Over the last couple of weekends Surfer Boy has been replacing 'Lorelai's' roof.  First up he removed the external roof.  Even I got in on the action when he needed someone to lean their weight on the ply to curve it.  Glad I have skills that are coming in useful!  There were a few moments when Surfer Boy got panicky about the rain but he managed to get everything back in place before the heavens opened up.

Next up is the internal ceiling - S.B. has run the cables for the wiring and we've managed to do a deal with our lovely friend Craig to get the electrical work done for free.  There is nothing like the barter system when you need stuff done.  As soon as I have finished this post I have to show S.B. where I want the lights and power points - Hmmmm.... one for the TV, the kettle, my laptop...... what else does my club house need?

Even In New Zealand

Caravan Update

This weekend it was time for a new roof.  Apparently the more Surfer Boy pulls off, the more he finds that needs replacing - oops!

New struts needed to be made before the roof can be put back on.  Thank god it's lovely Autumn weather in Melbourne this week.

Caravan Update

So here is what was under the patching!  Good job they covered that up before they sold it.  Thank god for Surfer Boy is all I can say.  This corner is the next on the job list and last weekend saw lots of measuring, sawing, hammering and all that other stuff that tradies do.
A couple of rotten floorboards have been replaced and the bracing on the back wall is now as good as new.  I think new walls are the next step.

I would just like to draw your attention to the fact that my husband may be the only tradie in Australia who has NO VISIBLE BUM CRACK while working!  Impressive hey?

Oh and by the way I got the quote for my seat upholstry today - put it this way - the caravan has just doubled in cost.

The Caravan Project - First Jobs

As soon as we got our lovely lady home the work began - Surfer Boy was already scrubbing , sweeping, and pulling up old lino when I arrived home.  My first job was to remove all the curtains and take the upholstery out to the back yard for a good scrub down.

I don't think I can accurately describe the smell to you so I won't try. Believe me, it's best you don't know.

First up they got a hose down in the shower and a good scrub using a very strong detergent.  Then they went outside to be attacked with the industrial high pressure hose that Surfer Boy had the forethought to bring home.

This is how they ended up - notice the bottoms are still drying out.  Although improved they are far from usable so the next step is to take them down to my upholsterer to see what his verdict is.  Do we start from scratch or can he save the bones and recover them?  We shall see.

While I was busy with the cushions, S.B. decided to re-build the door.

I won't pretend to know what or how he did it but the door now looks as good as new while still keeping all it's charm and features.

So there you have it - weekend one done and dusted.  Not a bad start.

Crochet For Lorelai

When we bought the caravan a girlfriend of mine commented that she would now have to crochet me a rug for it.  Well I don't expect her to actually do it but after seeing some of these pictures I am tempted to get her to re-teach me the fine art of crochet.

Caravan Inspiration - O.T.T.

Sometimes someone needs to take you aside and tell you when you've gone too far!
This is a perfect example of this not happening.
Maybe this van looks better from a distance but at the moment it is giving me a sugar rush.

It's Here

The caravan arrived yesterday - Surfer Boy took the day off to go and pick it up and then drove past my shop so I could see it - hilarious.

When I got home from work he had already started working on it - it was absolutely filthy and unfortunately smells rather strongly of dog!  Not my favourite aroma.

The poor girl is in a sorry state but I noticed there were measurements for sheets of ply on the dining table this morning so I'm tipping that by the end of the weekend she will have at least one spanking new panel.    I'll have to make sure I take lots of photos of her transformation.

I have to make a decision as to whether I cover over the current (original but gross and beyond saving) upholstery or if I splurge and get the seats recovered.  I'm leaning towards the latter as I don't think that dog wee smell is ever going to leave if I don't.  I've already removed the hideous curtains and binned them - tempted to make new ones tonight but think I should wait until everything is sparkling again.

So much to do - so fun.  Grab a pair of gloves, some Spray & Wipe and join us for a weekend of scrubbing....
