More Floors

Flikr

Flooring

Surfer Boy and I have been throwing around ideas for our flooring this weekend so I've spent hours hunched over the laptop looking at Salvage yards and reclaimed timber dealers.  Thought I'd take a break and see if looking at great rooms would help crystalise my thoughts.

So I guess I have established that I like white and wood - but which one on the floor - natural timber, lime wash, or white??

Island Bench

My lovely friend Jo sent me a link that she thought I might enjoy and she was right. How great are these butcher's blocks?

You can find them here and they even deliver free to most Australin capital cities!

The Holiday

It's bone-numbingly freezing here in Melbourne tonight and I was more than happy to arrive home from work to find a warm house full of the delicious smells of a dinner I didn't have to prepare.  I am now cosied up in front of the T.V and all the family is tucked up in bed.
The cold has got me thinking about cosy homes and what home is more cosy than Iris's home in the film 'The Holiday'?

The set designers have got this home just right as it suits the character perfectly and provides a perfect contrast to the L.A. home.

How great are these floorboards!  I want diamonds painted on my bathroom floor now.

Although this home seems absolutely perfect - the house itself was actually purpose built and made of fiberglass - sadly it was demolished after filming!  Talk about ruin the romance!

Living Rooms To Live In

I've seen a lot of homes lately that are fairly cookie-cutter and don't tell you much about the people who live there.  This is one of my pet peeves so I get very excited when I see houses that reflect the personalities of their owners.  Even if the style is very different to mine, it gives me such a thrill to see people express themselves through their interiors.

It's Not Me It's My Kitchen!

It's been one of those days today - the sink sprayed me with water this morning, I've chopped veggies right off the bench on to the floor, I've spilt milk and I just burnt the rice I was preparing for dinner!!  I know I shouldn't blame anyone but myself but I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to a new kitchen - one that doesn't have it in for me.  Visitors often comment that they love our kitchen as it's so quaint - unfortunately what looks interesting does not necessarily translate to a workable room.
So while I'm dreaming here are some kitchens I have had on file for a while...

Inspiration

On a Friday the lovely Eliza (Shhh...it's LizeyLou) and I catch up at our favourite cafe for a kid free natter about all things, but particularly the state of our various home projects.  Last Friday Lizey brought along her REAL LIVING magazine that had just arrived in the mail as she knew there was a home featured that was right up my alley.   She was correct - this home is very similar to my style and I popped down today to buy my own copy so I could feast to my heart's content.

His home belongs to a Melbourne artist and was once a coat hanger foundry, tucked away in Collingwood.

The other thing I love about this article is that it has finally given me a good way to describe my style - Industrial Rustic!  So many people ask about the renovation and ask what style it will be - now I can describe it perfectly.  Thanks Lizey.

Peeping In......

Over at Star's Hollow I posted a pic of Meg Ryan's stunning kitchen but I thought the home was so lovely that I'd share it with you here.  Meg was the visionary behind the renovation of this 'renovators delight' on Martha's Vineyard.
