HAPPY BIRTHDAY SURFER BOY

It was Surfer Boy's 40th birthday during the week and tonight we are taking 40 family and  friends to see his favourite movie.  It may come as a surprise but his favourite film is the 1956 musical -
HIGH SOCIETY.
Not the movie anyone was expecting - except his family who are responsible for him knowing every word and song.  Coming from a family with 4 sisters he was bound to be influenced and I for one am rapt that we are seeing this and not his second favourite film - PLATOON.

C.K. Dexter-Haven, a successful popular jazz musician, lives in a mansion near his ex-wife's Tracy Lord's family estate. She is on the verge of marrying a man blander and safer than Dex, who tries to win Tracy's heart again. Mike Connor, an undercover tabloid reporter, also falls for Tracy while covering the nuptials for Spy magazine. Tracy must choose between the three men as she discovers that "safe" can mean "deadly dull" when it comes to husbands and life.(IMDB)

Retro Surfer Boy

Surfer Boy has been going through some old photos, mostly from the days when he was more 'Climber Boy' than Surfer Boy. My how times have changed. I remember the days when every surface had the potential to be climbed and every building/bridge/wall was surveyed for it's possibilities. Even the long hair is long gone. As much as I loved it, it is much easier to be the wife of a surfer than a climber.
Thank god he doesn't have the time to do both anymore.

SKY HIGH SURFER BOY

My husband is gorgeous but sometimes I just don't want to know about his day at work. Photos like these remind me what he does every day and quite frankly I think I'm better off not knowing.

Timbaaaaaaa

I was going to show you my mulching - very boring - but I realised this was much more interesting. I have the kind of husband who actually does stuff as soon as I've asked. I happened to mention that nothing would grow in one of the beds because the tree was blocking the sun so five minutes later he had the chainsaw out and half the tree was down!! I'm sure he thinks I don't appreciate him but one day, if he ever reads this blog, he'll see that I do - very much.

Now to abuse his kindness and think of some more things I want done...

Valentine's Gifts

I'm not sure if I have talked about this before but Surfer Boy is a collector! What does he collect? LEGO MEN!!

Most of our friends check their kids lego stash when we leave in case he's pocketed any. It is almost at the problematic stage. Most nights are spent checking online for any he may not have yet. What started as a bit of a joke as spiralled out of control.

Here is one of the trays that house his collection.

The reason I thought I'd mention it is that Surfer Boy gave me a present yesterday! Very exciting and unexpected and you can imagine my excitement when I discovered my gift came in a jewellery box.

Here's what I opened it to find.....

Mine are green but you get the general idea.

I was going to the movies with 10 other girls and Surfer Boy told me that if I didn't wear them then he would know that I didn't like his present! Sneaky bastard. I wore them.... I will keep wearing them and even better Gidget suggested I add other lego to them and guess what, it works. Tonight I came out with various additions and a lego man hanging off each. I think that is what I will wear next time we go out with his mates.
I wonder what I'll get for my birthday?

Build It And They Will Come

Surfer Boy is completely incapable of relaxing and doing nothing for a whole weekend. These new gates appeared this weekend -

Sometime last week he decided that he didn't like our current gates which, by the way, are perfectly fine and are the same as the rest of the fence! He subsequently disappeared out to his shed for hours at a time.
.
.
He designed his own to match the little gate he made for me when the fence was built.
.

Don't get me wrong, I love the new gates, but really... were they necessary??

Half an hour after fitting the new gates he started looking around for a new project!!!! What is wrong with just lounging around doing nothing all weekend? I seem to be able to manage it.

Mars V. Venus

I've decided that the biggest difference between the sexes has to be their television viewing.

Every time Surfer Boy joins me on the couch he pooh-hoos my show choice. If I am stupid enough to leave the room to get a tea, go to the bathroom, check on the kids, I will return to find the show I have been watching for the past 1/2 hour now a black and white documentary (usually with subtitles) charting the history of the worlds best criminals or old men digging up bones in the Kalahari Desert. It SHITS me!!

Mr Smug then informs me that 'I could learn something'.

If I leave the room to blog 'cause I can't stand watching a brain sliced open on R.P.A. I get abused for spending too much time on the computer.

I've tried to fix the problem by suggesting we buy another TV for the bedroom, then he can watch whatever he wants and not be offended by my low-brow choices but that apparently is not an option. 'It's unnecessary. It's a 'want' not a 'need'.

Gggrrrrrr!

I want to watch So You Think You Can Dance.

I want to watch bad rom-coms.

I want to watch Rove.

I even want to watch Biggest Loser if I so choose.

Why can't we find anything we enjoy watching together? Is it that hard? Spics & Specs and The New Collectors are the only times we find ourselves on the couch together. That makes ONE HOUR a week!!
What happened to the days where the family sat around the idiot box together? Long gone I fear.
I want to be this family....

By the way, it is still frigging hot here!!! Thanks for caring.

Not again!

Lucky I did get that tree down!
Surfer Boy was expected home Monday, which then became Wednesday and as of this afternoon, became Thursday evening!!! If this keeps up I'll be applying for the single parent benefit.

Thank god this is back on tonight. A ray of light in a dismal world.
