42 Going On 14

I can barely keep my eyes open this morning - they are sore and scratchy and I just want to lay my head on the desk and have a snooze.  The reason for my discomfort is ... Smallville.

My guilty pleasure for the past year has been nightly episodes of the Clark Kent story and finally, after 10 long seasons it has come to an end.  The movie length finale episode aired in the States on Friday so I have been on tenterhooks all weekend.

My friend and fellow Superman freak, Jono, organised for 3 of us to watch this event at the Sun Theatre on the big screen so with much excitement we assembled on Sunday night (midnight) prepared to share an almost religious experience!  (Don't worry, I do know how crazy I sound).  2 hours later, as the film refused to load we slumped in our seats and realised we were going to have to wait longer to find out how the Smallville chapter of Clark's life tied up.

Finally, after a flurry of texts from 'he who had seen it while I was at work', I managed to get the family packed off to bed and settled in to watch 2 hours of uninterrupted bliss - and it didn't disappoint.
There were gasps, thrills, shock, and tears - lots of tears, hence my poor sore eyes this morning.  Can not wait to watch it all over again tonight.  And yes I think I have turned into a 14 year old boy but gee it's been a fun ride.

Thank you Smallville for 10 seasons of joy!

North & South

Another big night planned with these two!
The South has declared it's Independence and war is in the air - don't do it boys.  Stay home!

You'd think I'd be more composed having read the books and seen the mini series before but I'm just as pathetically involved as the first time I met Orry and George.

North & South

I've spent the last few evenings curled up with these lovely boys...

Orry Main (Patrick Swayze) and George Hazard (James Read).
There is nothing like a sweeping period miniseries to get me entranced and this one is right up there with my very favourite - All The Rivers Run.  I will be entrenched in the American civil war for the next few weeks so forgive me if I start talking with a Southern drawl.

Of course one thing that I couldn't keep my eyes off this time around were the amazing homes of the Hazard and Main families.  The South had a lot that was fundamentally wrong with it but it's architecture wasn't one of those things.

Boone Hall - the setting for Orry's home, Mont Royal

The drive leading to Mont Royal

Greenwood Plantation - Madeline's home, Resolute

Age is Obviously No Barrier

I think I might just be the only person in Australia who has never watched Masterchef and if this is what the Jnr Masterchefs are producing I think it's best if I don't watch this either.  There is no point watching a show that is going to make me feel even more inadequate in the kitchen than I already do!

Gleeful

I've had such a good time tonight watching back episodes of Glee. This show brings a smile to my face every episode and I have been known to frequently laugh out loud to the concern of my family. I am so rapt that there is a show on TV that brings me such joy and delight every week, it's a rare thing indeed.
.
(gratuitous Mark Salling pic just for my benefit)
.
Gidget is sharing the love and look what the angel has bought me for Christmas!! Can't wait to belt out a few numbers into my hairbrush but I have to wait until the 25th.

Country Boys CAN Dance

Gidget became obsessed with Dancing With The Stars this season which gave me a great excuse to enjoy it with her. I haven't voted for a couple of seasons but this year I fell in love with Mr Adam Brand and have been texting his name faithfully every week.
.

It turns out I was not the only one - after being out danced in the grand final tonight, he still managed to take the title due to his overwhelming voter support. His reaction was priceless. No way did he think he was in with a chance. It just goes to show that a lovable larrikan and a sweet partner can out dance anyone.

Congratulations Adam and Jade

Drop In And Visit

I have always loved the Murray River. Our family spent many Easter holidays camping by it's banks, swimming in it, jumping from trees in to it... My Dad lived by it for some of his youth.

My love for it was cemented when I fell in love with Philadelphia Gordon in 'All The River's Run'!! (The wonderful mini series of the book of the same name by Nancy Cato.)

Actually now that I think of it that was a ripper of a book and I must get it out and indulge in another read. For that matter I think I need to start googling and buy the DVDs too...hmmm..... Anyway, where was I?

Oh yes - I sat down to enjoy my lunch in the sun and have a read of my Country Style magazine when I came across this picture.

I have not been able to stop staring at it and I'm sure if I look hard enough and long enough I will get magically transported there! What a way to spend the weekend. Floating on the majestic Murray listening to the laugh of Kookaburras and sniffing the smells of the bush. Perfect tranquility after a week of tragedy.

90210

It will come as no surprise to anyone to hear that I am REALLY REALLY looking forward to Monday night! 8.30pm will find me glued to the television for my long awaited fix of 90210!
Anyone who holds a soft spot in their heart for these guys...

must be tuning in to see what the next generation has in store for us.

With Kelly, Brenda and supposedly Donna all on board for the new season it's bound to be a ripper. Nothing will be the same without the boys (but they obviously had more going on in their careers) Hopefully a little bit of Melrose Place in the person of Rob Estes will help ease the pain.

For anyone in the Yarraville area, or anywhere in Victoria for that matter, the Commercial Hotel in Yarraville has agreed to show 90210 on the BIG SCREEN for me. They are providing bean bags and I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. So if you want to come down and have a few drinks and indulge in a little 'Bevvas' we'll be starting 90210 nights on Monday the 15th September. Should be hilarious.

That opening music get's me every time. I'm so glad they kept it.

More Joy From Amy

It will be absolutely no surprise to anyone who knows me that Gilmore Girls is my favourite show. Before you roll your eyes and click on to someone Else's blog, I'm not actually going to talk about G.G. This post is all about the creative genius that is Amy Sherman-Palladino.

Sherman-Palladino is best known as the creator and executive producer of Gilmore Girls She and her husband wore many hats as the creative forces of the show, writing many of the episodes and also acting as producers.

Mid 2006, it was announced that Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel could not come to an agreement with The C.W. to continue their contracts. As a result, the Palladinos' involvement with Gilmore Girls came to an end. And some say, so did the glory days of the show.

The reason for this post about Amy is not only because I think she is an amazing creative force, but I have just heard from the 'Font Of All Wisdom' - Whitney - that she has developed a new sitcom!! WoooHoooo!!!

The Return Of Jezebel James
is about two sisters who come together after years apart, when one of the sisters agrees to carry the other's baby. Amy will write, executive produce and direct the pilot. The series will debut on March 14, 2008 on FOX. Parker Posy is the star in the series, along with Lauren Ambrose from 6 Feet Under fame.

As you can imagine I am more than a little excited about the prospect of a new offering from the Sherman-Palladino family but I have an awful suspicion that it will be many years before we see it on Australian TV, if at all. Looks like it's time to upgrade the Internet connection and get set for lots of illegal downloading!

By the way do any Gilmore fans recognise an old friend in any of the photos??

Mars V. Venus

I've decided that the biggest difference between the sexes has to be their television viewing.

Every time Surfer Boy joins me on the couch he pooh-hoos my show choice. If I am stupid enough to leave the room to get a tea, go to the bathroom, check on the kids, I will return to find the show I have been watching for the past 1/2 hour now a black and white documentary (usually with subtitles) charting the history of the worlds best criminals or old men digging up bones in the Kalahari Desert. It SHITS me!!

Mr Smug then informs me that 'I could learn something'.

If I leave the room to blog 'cause I can't stand watching a brain sliced open on R.P.A. I get abused for spending too much time on the computer.

I've tried to fix the problem by suggesting we buy another TV for the bedroom, then he can watch whatever he wants and not be offended by my low-brow choices but that apparently is not an option. 'It's unnecessary. It's a 'want' not a 'need'.

Gggrrrrrr!

I want to watch So You Think You Can Dance.

I want to watch bad rom-coms.

I want to watch Rove.

I even want to watch Biggest Loser if I so choose.

Why can't we find anything we enjoy watching together? Is it that hard? Spics & Specs and The New Collectors are the only times we find ourselves on the couch together. That makes ONE HOUR a week!!
What happened to the days where the family sat around the idiot box together? Long gone I fear.
I want to be this family....

By the way, it is still frigging hot here!!! Thanks for caring.

Australian Record Industry Awards

God I love the ARIAs -

*How many beers do you reckon Daniel Johns consumed before Silverchairs Album Of The Year award??

*How hot were John Butler and Keith Urban together?

*Is Nick Cave finally loosing his mane?

*Did anyone else tear up when Missy sang?

*Can anyone do rock star better than Daniel Johns?

*Is Megan Gale taller than Rove McManus?

*Is there anyone else who doesn't get the Sneaky Sound System phenomenon?

*Sarah Blasko - best pop release??

All questions I could ask for this weeks poll.....

This is for Eliza -

This is for me -

And this is just 'cause she's ACE -

the 90's were hot!

Here are the boys from the 90's that have been suggested so far - pretty good selection I think.

First up is the poster boy for good moral judgement (with a minor alcohol problem along the way) - Mr Brandon Walsh..

followed by the boy we all wanted to fix - Mr Dillon McKay

Next we have the underlord of dark and brooding - ANGEL

And the fun loving prankster forever in Dawson's shadow - Mr Pacey Witter

and last but not least the head of the cheery Salinger family - Mr Charlie Sallinger.

They were all so cute I had to show you a shot of each to help with the decision making...

Series 2 episode 1 - 'Beach Blanket Brandon'

Has anyone ever noticed how high Brandon Walsh wears his shorts??
I've spent the evening watching Brenda and Dillon break up because 'they are getting too intense', Brandon leaving Nat at the Peach Pit for a new gig at the Beach Club, and apart from still wishing Dillon would throw me over the back of his Harley, I haven't been able to get past the shorts. They are criminal and followed in close second place by Kelly's severe lack of gammas! She is ghostly pale and really could have done with some fake tan.
Despite all this the gang at West Beverley still make me smile (and tear up occasionally), and I really wouldn't change a thing about them.
